Injured and discharged, Marine Levi Haywood has returned to his family’s ranch in order to heal and start a new life. After all, once a cowboy, always a cowboy. The only problem? Life at the ranch has moved on since he joined the service, and suddenly his role is much less clear. And things get a lot more confusing when his childhood sweetheart shows up.
Carrie Lynn Waite has never known a time when she didn’t love Levi. They were childhood sweethearts, but because of her illness, she was forced to move to the city, away from the ranching life. Now Carrie’s come home only to learn her family’s ranch is in trouble and Levi is back, along with an undeniable attraction she can’t resist. But some things never change. Now Carrie must decide between her future…and the cowboy she could never resist.
If you’re looking for a book to make you ugly cry then you have found it. Also, Levi is a military man and a cowboy?? SCORE!!!! Ok, back to my sappiness…… Carrie and Levi have a forever kind of love and no amount of hardship will keep them apart. It’s enough to make a girl sigh and more than a little bit weepy but that’s okay because sometimes you just need that from a story.
I love a book that can take me from the highest high to the lowest low on the emotional roller coaster and this one certainly does it. Carrie has a very severe form of diabetes and Levi was hurt and almost disabled by a bomb while in the military. What better way for 2 people to heal than with someone who knows the ups and downs of not being 100% healthy.
I can’t imagine a better story and I was rooting for Carrie to get her head straight and just stay throughout the whole book.
